I haven’t updated LJ for ages. I could tell you all about BiCon or about going to Glasgow with [livejournal.com profile] thekumquat and the Windyridge Games or my most recent Cotswold’s holiday with [livejournal.com profile] xanna but instead I’m going to be geeky again.

Does anyone want a SGI Octane? It is a Unix machine so I will not be doing my normal PC repair and re-homing thing and instead will ask if anyone wants it before I say I’ll have it. I expect I could get him to drop it off in Streatham if that would be an easier place to pick it up from?

Here's the spec from Matt at work...

SGI Silicon Graphics Octane
CPU: MIPS R10000 195 MHz
RAM: 384 MB
DISK:
4 GB
4 GB
OS: IRIX 6.5 pre-installed
Graphics: Dual Graphics cards
ESI with 13w3 connector & 3D goggles connector
SI with 13w3 connector & 3D goggles connector
Additional:
PCI Card Cage
Ethernet card

SGI SIlicon Graphics Keyboard
SGI Silicon Graphics Mouse

SGI Silicon Graphics 21 inch CRT
13w3 connector
Remote Control

Monitor Cable
Power Cables

All for the £0 (FREE) to the person willing to collect from Windsor.

There's a small crack on the monitor casing - it's not noticeable unless I point it out. The onboard ethernet has a duplex mismatch issue - which is why I've fitted a second ethernet card.

OT I know, but...

... can you send me the details you were going to, please?

I have a couple of monitors here for other projects of yours, and will probably be driving to Polyday- want me to bring them with me?

That would be lovely. How easy are they to carry? I could bring in my car too, or leave them at work until a later date.

I have two lcd flats, and a crt if you're interested in that, although the one currently with [livejournal.com profile] artremis is probably in better condition. Can carry the flats, one under each arm.......

Are they CRT monitors? If so we may have trouble physically fitting them in the house atm...

this is the flaw in my ongoing camapingn to stop [livejournal.com profile] oilrig hordeing so much computer-stuff - it just causes a build-up of the same computer-stuff elsewhere!

Am I to understand that this means the cards have the connector but no goggles?

Oh, and would you like a 2.2GHz Celeron SFF machine, with DVD burner and WiFi but no ram or HDD?

Yes I almost certainly would, but please don't bring it to PolyDay as I have enough to bring home.

I've no idea but it sounds like it doesn't it?

Makes sense. I'm pretty sure I don't need an SGI anyway...

I don't think I've ever seen an external PCI card cage, if that's what it is.

I always love to rehome classic workstations, but I am at the stage where I have many/lots, and no more room. :-(

hello,

Just commenting on an old post to say I added you to my Flist.

It was nice chatting with you briefly (and giving baby advice) on Saturday and I very much enjoyed the party.
