I'm embarrassed but I won't let it stop me from asking: I actually have no idea what did happen in the voting on the 5th. What happened?
Yes, yes. Stupid ethnocentric yanks have no clue what's going on outside of their country...think they are the centre of the Universe... I care about what happened but am not sure how to search google for it. I could find an easy answer but not analysis of what it might mean in real life to real Brits.
I just realised that I never answered this. So yes we lost the AV vote by such a large amount that even without the dodgy tactics of the No camp it was still a lost cause. More importantly the Lib Dems got panned in the local elections and the Tories got off relatively lightly. Meanwhile this allowed the Scottish nationalists to take over in Scotland and as a result there will be a referendum on Scottish independence. Nick Clegg is now very unpopular outside of Lib Dem circles and is looking pretty sad in photos. It was a bit of a disaster for those of us who support the Lib Dems. Does that help?
On the plus side Jen (softfruit) got the hang out with Nick Clegg and give him some good ideas after the elections were over.
